Doors Within Doors

i.
I have seen it.

ii.
My heart, it leapt out
To find sanctuary
In an invisible room
With doors within doors
And only I have the keys
Which now remain hidden
In an invisible room
With doors within doors.

Winter in the Desert: A Haiku

This winter morning
A spot of sun on my hand
Feels like happiness.

Ar-Ra’d / Guruh

Dalam kegegakan guruh yang tersirat
Dalam kegelapan awan yang sarat
Hari-hari gersang, berlalu lah!
Pergi! Jangan kembali lagi
Mengontangkan setiap lembah jiwa ini
Yang rindukan Dia yang Maha Suci
Membasahi tanah yang penat berduka
Akibat kemarau sekian lama
Hujan yang tak kunjung tiba
Kini mencurah bagaikan petanda
Bahawasanya
Kilat itu
Guruh itu
Hujan itu
Semuanya menuntut satu refleksi
Betapa diriku lebih kerdil dari sayap
Seekor nyamuk yang berguguran
Tidak pantas untuk memberontak
Laksana Firaun penuh bongkak
Ditelan lautan tenggelam lenyap
Sedangkan Engkau Ya Rabbi
Al Qaahar, Al Jabbar, Ar Rahim, Ar Rahman
Dari zatMu aku berharap
Mendambakan petunjuk dan barokah
Dalam setiap rintik hujan yang Engkau turunkan
Ke hati yang dulu gersang dan pasrah
Kini berbunga bagaikan taman
Aku tenang dengan Qur’anMu Al Furqan
Jikalau ketenangan ini bisa dirakam
Dalam bersujud doa kupanjatkan
Buat pengakhiran husnul khotimah
Tika Izrail memberiku salam.

Ta’if (14th October 2018)

She broke you even more
In a year already full of sorrows
The blood gushed out of your wounds
And ran down your tired legs
Soaking your sandals
As if you had gone wading
In a river of water so red.

Airmataku mengalir laju
Mengenangkan keadaanmu
Ketika engkau dihina
Menjadi ejekan dan bahan ketawa
Dilempar cacian, dibaling batu
Disakiti dan dizalimi mereka
Yang dihijabi hati dan mata
Dari mengenali Dia Yang Satu.

A true Prophet that you are
When an angel appeared, armed with mountains
Who would have wiped them out
In a blink of an eye, in a split second
If you’d only say ‘Aye!’
And yet you had said ‘No.’
Perchance their children
Or their children’s children
In a future, not too far
Would believe in Tawheed
The Oneness of The One -
The Most High.

Leaving Ibn Abbas Mosque, my heart was heavy
But the Ta’if you once knew was no more
The descendants of those kafiruns
Whom you shielded from Allah’s wrath
Now walk around the city
With Nur in their hearts, your legacy
For Allah’s rewards are a thousandfold
For that one time when you showed
Kindness, forgiveness, and mercy
To those who called you their enemy.

Ya Rasulullah, salallaahu alaihi wasallam!

(Note: When asked by Saidatina Aisyah RA about his toughest time during his da’wah, Prophet Muhammad PBUH had answered ‘Ta’if.’)

What Love is Not

Love is not
A series of do’s and don’ts
Nor time bound to availability
Only between 1 and 3
Love is not
Hard -  it’s gentle and easy
Neither restrictive, nor smothering
Love is not
Excuses of timezones and geography
Or people, or hierarchy
Neither role plays nor responsibility.
Love is...well...
Here, hold it in your heart-
Feel its limitless softness
Of affection flowing free
If it is hard and unyielding
It’s not Love you’re holding.
