As I am Passing

i.
It is always when I think I am doing
Great, that Life says ‘Getting complacent, are we?’
And swiftly throws a curved ball in my direction
Then shouts ‘Heads up!’ as I watch helplessly
How my world again turning topsy turvy.

ii.
I know.
Or rather, I should know better.

iii.
But maybe I lack understanding
Of how to walk this Earth with caution
How to love myself more than summer suns
And - to my foolish heart - how to be kind
But my head, it keeps forgetting
This simple fact-of-life, so damning
That these tests are never ending
As I am passing.
