A Gentle Companion

A Gentle Companion

i.
These friends with slits of shifty eyes
Whispering sweet promises in forked tongues
Beguiling me with smiles so hypnotising
Who take my hand and lead me
From The Path into the enchanted woods yonder
And as I stop to look at faeries
Whose wings suspended in the Witch Tree
They push me down the deep hole
Full of objects so tantalising
My eyes, my ears, my senses - all saturated
with these knicks and those knacks so spellbinding
People laughing at the top of their lungs
Eyes so glazed give me a soulless glance
Pulling and pushing and shoving
As we’re sucked down the cesspool
Then I feel Your Hands heavy on my shoulders
Turning me the other way
Towards the light so dim in the distance
Beckoning for me to go near.

ii.
Not all things that sparkle are gold
Not all gold in your hand is a gift
Not all gifts sent to your door are blessings
Not all blessings are mercies, some are tests
Not all tests are punishments, some purify the soul
Not all souls are lost, some found the Truth
Not all truths are The Truth, far from the Divine
Ask and He will give, this He promised in The Furqan.

iii.
Hold my hand, my gentle companion
And let us tread lightly
Upon this Path of Life
Littered with bends so dubious
Tripping me up while I am busy
Looking up at those stars of neon
Blinding me with incessant flashes.

I might get distracted along the way
My qalb stays still just for a short while
It is fickle thing - it is still learning
Be gentle with me, my frayed soul is fragile
Be patient if I prostrate too long, my tears just won’t dry
Be kind when I am harsh, I swear I am trying my best
Be compassionate if I fall, help me pass this test
Let me take my sweet time while I have His Audience
I prostrate and pray that my heart won’t sway
Keep me on The Path Ya Rabb till Your Judgement Day.

The Choice

When it comes to You

I’d throw away
the love of Men
for Yours.
Any day.
Always.
Ya Rabb.
