i.
Let me stop you right there
While your words freeze mid sentence
I am for whom legends are written
The one you love and adore
But never understand
Why I do what I do when I do
Then walk away to the distant shore
My bleeding heart leaves a trail in the sand.
Let me stop you right there
While you speak of love so lame
My whole being cringes with shame
At the earnestness you try to feign
In your eyes so false, in your words so obtuse
For I am a child borne out of the storm
I will neither be contained nor restrained
Within these confines of an excuse
Of a love you’ve called grand.
Let me stop you right there
While your words freeze midair.
ii.
Come sit here by me, my child.
Tonight I will sing a song long forgotten
About a prisoner held in the dungeons
Straining against the unyielding chains
That tried to hold her back and down
To turn her soul into their creeds
And make her one of their own
Little did they know it’s all in vain
For she required little and had no needs
For either a throne or a bejewelled crown
‘Cos she was born a warrior queen
Invincible by day, slaying dragons
Melancholy by night, fighting demons
And everything else in between
And the chains came down
Crashing, crashing.
